After the news on allegations that a child was sexually assaulted by people, including public officers, in a village in Gercüş district of Batman, Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office made a statement and refuted the allegations. A confidentiality order and media blackout was issued against the investigation conducted on the matter, within which one suspect was arrested. After the incident became a highlight in the agenda, many citizens showed their reaction on social media with the hashtag #GercüşteNeOluyor [#WhatHappensInGercüş] and investigations were opened against social media posts. The Security General Gorectorate made a statement that indicated judicial actions were taken against 27 people, who misinformed the public on the matter and conducted a perception operation.
