In the lawsuit filed against journalist and Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK) Press-Labour Executive Council member Ali Ergin Demirhan due to six Twitter posts in 2018, Istanbul 22nd Assize Court sentenced Demirhan to 1 year and three months of imprisonment due to “insulting the President” and deferred the announcement of the verdict. Demirhan was acquitted of the charge of “public incitement towards resentment and hostility.”
