Indictment against journalist Deniz Yücel

A new indictment was prepared against journalist Deniz Yücel with the claim that he had insulted former Istanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and current Deputy Justice Minister Hasan Yılmaz. Yılmaz was responsible for many critical cases like the Osman Kavala Case. The indictment prepared against Yücel is based on a social media post he shared about Yılmaz. Yücel presented his defense statement to Berlin Tiergarten Administrative Court since he resides in Germany, to be sent to Istanbul 24th Criminal Court of First Instance. In his statement, Yücel claimed that Yılmaz had kept him in prison for a year without an indictment prepared against him, and that eventually a ridiculous two-page indictment was prepared against him after the order of Erdoğan, even though the indictment was full of legal and translational flaws. Yücel stated, “The Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights have debunked the indictments prepared by Hasan Yılmaz and how he denigrated the law and judicature with the work he put forward.”
