Constitutional Court considers violence against journalist a “violation of press freedom”

In an application made at the Constitutional Court (AYM) by dokuz8Haber Editor-in-Chief Gökhan Biçici regarding the police violence he was exposed to, while following the news during the Gezi Park protests, a decision was made on the prohibition of torture and violation of freedom of expression and press. A copy of the Constitutional Court’s decision was sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for the purpose of “effectively conducting the investigation in line with the violation decree”. The investigation opened against the police had resulted in impunity on the grounds that “there was not enough evidence” and that “the perpetrators could not be identified”.
