The trial of Özgür Gündem’s substitute editors continue

      Erol Önderoğlu (Reporters Without Borders Turkey Representative), Şebnem Korur

Fincancı (Chair of Human Rights Foundation Turkey) and writer Ahmet Nesin who have

taken part in Substitute Editorship Campaign in support of Özgür Gündem daily had

another hearing on June 8. Many local and international human rights organization

representatives were monitoring the trial.

       Önderoğlu presented RSF's report on Turkey to the court and Efkan Bolaç, attorney for

Ahmet Nesin who was not present, notified the court of Nesin's residential address abroad.

The court ordered for his statement to be taken. Attorney Senem Doğanoğlu demanded

that an application to Constitutional Court for the cancellation of Article 214 of Penal Code

(provocation for criminal activity) on the grounds that it conflicts with the freedom of

expression, her demand was rejected. The hearing will continue on December 26, at

10:30.
