Open Society Foundation: “We end our activities in Turkey”

Open Society Foundation, founded by arrested businessman Osman Kavala, decided to end their activities in Turkey following the operation against Anadolu Kültür due to Kavala being the Executive Board Chairman at the association. The statement made by the Foundation indicated that “the false charges and disproportionate speculations intensifying in the media has made it impossible for the foundation to continue its activities.” The foundation financially supports many institutions to create a democratic, civil and equal political environment in Turkey. The executive board of the foundation further spoke on the allegations that the foundation is supporting Gezi Park protests with donations from abroad, calling the allegations “untrue.”

The foundation’s name was on the agenda lately within the investigation against businessman Osman Kavala. President Tayyip Erdoğan spoke last week, referring to Osman Kavala, and said, “Someone who was the financial source of terrorists during the Gezi Park events is in prison right now. The infamous, Hungarian Jew Soros is behind him.” Kavala is kept in prison for more than a year without an indictment against him and the foundation was recently being targeted in the pro-government media.
