Following the investigation opened against Ayşe Çelik, who was connected to the TV show presented by Beyazıt Öztürk on Kanal D in the evening of 8 January 2016, Friday, via phone call; a group of intellectuals including Oya Baydar, Ferhat Tunç, Ayşegül Devecioğlu, Şanar Yurdatapan made a civil disobedience protest, supporting Çelik.

Gathering together with the call of the initiative of “Peace Demanders,” the intellectuals denounced themselves in Istanbul and Ankara by saying, “we are all teacher Ayşe,” stating that they also sign under the statements of Çelik and that they are prepared to take the legal responsibility of the consequences.

In the TV show she connected to via phone call, Çelik has stated, “are you aware of what’s going on in the Southeastern Turkey? Unborn children, mothers, people are being killed here… The things happening here are being transferred to the screens and to the media. Don’t be silent… See, hear and give your hands to us. It’s a pity, don’t let those people, those children die; don’t let the mothers cry.” Then an investigation was opened against Çelik with the charge of “terrorist organization propaganda.”

A petition campaign was started at change.org as the continue of this initiative started by the intellectuals.
